Sublimation printing is a full-color decoration method used to produce vibrant, all-over apparel prints on polyester-based garments. The artwork is first printed onto specialized transfer paper and then applied to the garment using heat and pressure. During the sublimation process, heat converts the dye into a gas, allowing it to bond directly with the polyester fibers. For the brightest and most accurate results, 100% polyester garments are recommended. Polyester/cotton blends, such as 50/50 fabrics, can be used when a softer, vintage, or worn-in effect is desired. Sublimation is best suited for white or very light-colored garments. Darker garment colors can significantly alter the final imprint because sublimation dyes do not sit on top of the fabric like traditional ink. For this reason, garment color, fabric composition, and artwork requirements should be reviewed before production to ensure the desired result.
